boxer racer project

with less than a week before the boxer makes it's, [and mine] first appearance in a real classic race, it's time to get down to the nitty-gritty with the preparation, one of the rules that has just been introduced is that all machines in the bear's series should run 'oil containment', there are proprietary 'belly pan's' available, but, to be honest, most of them are for modern superbikes and at around sixty quid a throw for a fibrelass moulding are a touch on the expensive side, especially for a cash strapped and tight derbyshire lad like your's truly, so, this morning mr's b has given me a list of chores to do before i walk the dog's, i'm idly rinsing the breakfast pot's before stacking the dishwasher, don't know where these idea's come from sometime's, mr's b's baking tray, look's just the job for the oil containment duties i require, out into the shed, [with two very attentive jack russell terrier's in close proximity, jack's had his carnivourous sausage and bacon sunday morning feast baked in the aforesaid receptacle] yep, spot-on, make a couple of measurements and set to making four mounting bracket's to suspend the tray under the sump, whip out the engine mounting bolts and drill and tap them to accept four six mm screws, cut, drill and bend four pieces of 20mmx2mm stainless flat, clean up the mounting hardware and knock up a couple of extension bushes out of a couple of pieces of 15mm ally round stock, [all this while the baking tray is in the dishwasher], cut up an old doormat to fit the bottom of the tray and glue it in with some contact adhesive, job's a good 'un, just hope her indoor's doesn't notice she's a bit light on the baking tray's.................

  4. keeping a close watch on 'the book' squire neil!, thank's for the love as usual whitey, and jan? i owe you one for that, i never thought of diversionary tacticts coming into play! all i have to do is fill the baking tray / 'oil containment' pan with bacon and sausage, as the heat from the engine cooks it and the fat comes out it will eventually slide out of the pan and onto the track just as i'm getting lapped for the second time! brilliant!
