went to see julian cope, 'the arch drude', at the rescue rooms in snottingham, love the venue, it's an old masonic building just around the corner from rock city, i reckon you can get around 300 people in there at a squeeze, i've seen loads of gigs here but it does get a little 'intimate', last time i saw julian was four years ago at the same venue, he had a full band last time, this time was a semi-acoustic with effects pedals and various members of his road crew layering effects with an antique analogue synthersizer, banging a large bass drum, [emblazoned with the statement 'you can't beat your head for entertainment'] and holding up fine art prints, a protest banner, 'end amerikkkan kapitalism' and waving the international anarchist flag, the songs were all classics and stripped back to basics took on a new meaning, punk doesn't need to be loud to get the message over, he's dropped the 'u' boat commanders cap and swapped it for a united air force 1960's air marshall's cap, like he says ' you need to keep up with the bad guy's', saint julian.
chuck palmgren, been reading his story in a back issue of 'classic racer', he started racing on a harley kr750, got drafted to vietnam in '65 and became a triumph factory rider in '69 riding for east coast distributors triumph corp. of baltimore, he swapped to yamaha in 1970 and was the first rider to win a national final on a japanese bike, cool dude.
got a piece of close-cell neoprene rubber for a seat pad, cut out a cardboard pattern for the basic shape and traced it onto the neoprene, cut out with a modelling knife and this is about halfay through shaping up with some fine wet and dry, that's the good thing about neoprene, you can sand it to a decent finish, i tried to drill through it for the mounting holes but it's just too soft so i just cut around them, you can get an off-cut from a gasket manufacturer for a couple of quid, it's close-cell construction won't soak up water and it's relatively hard wearing so you don't have to muck about making a seat cover.
how do you wind up a brace of jack russell terriers?, first you take the blankets off their dog bed complete with ikea toy rats and throw them in the washing machine, they then spend twenty minutes barking at the contents of the machine going round and round, when the washing cycle is finished peg the blankets and rats on the line and sit back and watch them jumping up 4ft to try and snatch them back.
