mz racer tank, a thing of beauty for sure, decided i needed some help with this thing so contacted steve cannon in grimsby for some advice, steve has been racing the mz's for 11 years so has been around the block a few times with them, me and dangerous paid him a visit at cannon racing hq in deepest, darkest lincolnshire on wednesday, got loads of valuable info off him and the bloke couldn't have been more welcoming, loads of coffees and help, thanks steve, last time i went to cleethorpes i took my son jack and he was bad for a week after playing on the beach, now you mention it i feel a little strange myself.....................................................................................................................................................

so me and dangerous got talking on the way up to grimsby as we were going to drop the engine off at steve cannons for the porting work and dave opens up about his racing exploits in the '60's, he won loads of races on his 250cc ducati single, up against the aermacchi racers, they had loads more power compared to the ducs back in the day but dave blew them into the weeds, especially in the wet, we are not worthy mate, respect due.

you can't have fluids dripping all over the race track so the regs state that you have to have a suitable catch tank to collect them in, this is the bottom of the frame where i cut off the original footpeg and centre stand mountings off, blank this off and you have a perfect catch tank.

so, i cut a piece of 2mm stock out to weld to the bottom of the frame to blank it off, weld a 6mm nut onto it at the lowest point of the frame rake and drill a hole 5mm through that to use as a drain hole for the fluids.

this is the top engine mount on the frame, the engine basically hangs from this stud, the racers use daf lorry gearbox mountings which lowers the engine in the frame to get a better c.o.g, with the increased revs of the tuned engine the mount fractures and your engine pivots forward in the frame, the exhaust hits the floor and you bite the tarmac, deep joy.

so, i made some fillet pieces to weld onto the engine support to make it stronger.
