frenchy dropped the sporty off, fresh from him and crog wiring it up, well, when i say fresh, let me explain, frenchy and crog find it hysterical to get their grubby pikey mit's on my bike and leave greasy smears and fingerprints all over my polished aluminium, this combined with marker pen comments like 'faggot', 'gayboy' and 'homo' and what suspiciously looks like a piss stain on the right forkleg and front wheel and i'm delighted to have my bike back in my possession, the lad's have done a cracking job, there are a bare minimum of wires on the bike and all as inobtrusive and hidden as possible, the starter and horn button are in the carbon fibre cover that i made to replace the pressed tin standard fuse cover, there's no ignition barrel, just a tiny on/off switch, no front light but the rear led light is wired to be on with the ignition and of course to display a brake light, [actuated off a tiny micro switch on the front brake lever], i crack the bike into life and nearly turn it straight off, the oil has been drained of oil for the last six months or so and the pushrod tubes were off to allow us to cut down the ignition cover, which in turn means dropping the four cams out, blah, blah, blah, the oil soons starts to circulate and i let the motor warm while i dig out my helmet, no seat, no numberplate but i just have to have a quick squirt down the road to see what the bike feels like, i struggle to find the footpegs, they are now six inches further forward and 'mid' mounted than last years rearset's, bang it into first, [love the sporty gearbox, sounds like someone kicking an old galvanised dustbin over, remember those?] clutch feels light, i reckon the straight run into the japper clutch lever has improved the feel no-end, whiff of throttle and we're off, the bike feels a lot lighter, [it should do the amount of crap that i've stripped off it], i'm on brand new rubber so no heroics, the seventeen's have definately sharpened the steering up and losing one of the front disc's and caliper's doesn't seem to have had a too detrimental effect on the braking, but, as i said, this was a gentle shakedown ride, back in the shed and i have a brew to let the bike cool down before setting to and giving it a thorough clean, there is no better way of finding faults than cleaning, i make notes of jobs to do as i make my way around the bike, most minor like fitting breathers, sidestand rubber's and cotter pin's and checking fasteners for tightness, [even on this three mile shakedown a few had come loose so i broke out the 243], i'm not happy with slight oil leak from the primary chaincase, a result of mounting the rearset's off it last year perhaps or just ready for a new gasket? i don't like the popping and farting on decelleration, possibly too lean or an air leak, so i'm going to try and tune the supertrapps to suit using the discs and fine tuning the jetting, all in all i'm pretty chuffed at the minute, i've been doing this long enough now to know that other problem's will arise, [it's a frigging hardly dangerous innit] but the list is getting shorter at last, i sit back with another brew and notice the rake of the sporty against the 'zed, look's like a chopper in comparison, i like black bikes me, that's because i'm batman...........
