what the flipping flip? went to bed and it was june, woke up this morning and it's november, three week's to go and the night's start to draw in again, summer solstice will be here and gone in the blink of an eye, where does the time go? after a lazy day walking dog's in the rain and cold, watching moto gp, drinking tea, updating my hacked i-tunes, drinking tea, squabbling with dangerous, lock-wiring the drain plugs on the boxer racer project, [there's two on the shaft. one on the fill-level plug, one on the fill plug and one on the engine sump], theres only one thing to do, drink red wine, play some boards of canada c.d's, look at the rain and wait to get the tt sidecar highlight's on the telly when mr's b's finished watching 'the apprentice' final, [ok, that's four thing's]..........

boxer racer project

i'm fifty-three this coming birthday and you know what? you would have thought i would have sussed it out by now, but no, my beautiful venhill throttle assembly turns out to be, well, let's put it like this, 'dissapointing' just cant get the throttle feeling 'right' i spend most of the day dicking about adjusting the cables, taking up the slack on the adjustment, slackening it off and trying again, it's just not right, the cable is not running right and giving me that 'feel' that i need at the 'bar, it's snagging and the cable is jumping off the bobbin, in desperation i fit a cheapo, domino commando plastic throttle assembly that i had as a spare, rip open the plastic packaging, position it on the clip-on, adjust it up and? perfect, my venhill all singing all dancing item cost four times the amount, the domino? cheap as chips at twelve quid, feel's right, like public enemy said, 'don't believe the hype......'

have you ever seen that old film 'the plank' it stars all the classic british comedy stars of the '60's, eric sykes, tommy cooper, stratford john's, hattie jacques, jim dale, john junkin and a host of other people from the sixties that you would know if you saw them but never knew their name, it's a comic, slapstick masterpiece, almost a 'silent' movie , like the great film's of the '30's, brilliant, i mention it because it reminded me of the loveless shed tonight, funny how such simple job's soon turn into a fucking nightmare, decided to make up the throttle cables, the throttle slides in the spanish amal's needing a little 'dressing' with a riffler to allow the nipple's to fit, [ooh er matron'] that done it was a simple task to fit the carb top, tension spring cable and brass retaining disc, not, the disc fired itself across the shed like a frigging excocet narrowly missing the oblivious dangerous turning up a spacer on the lathe, next two hours, choice language, hand's and knee's searching through the swarf and aluminium turnings on the floor, eventually it get's dark and i tell dangerous i'm going to turn out the shed lights and search by maglite beam, he reckon's i'm a twat and goes home, i've seen this done on c.s.i and it alway's turn's up the evidence, ten minutes in to my search and i find it, jammed between the hog-hoist runner and the bench, i phone dangerous triumphant, he reckon's i'm still a twat, cables fitted, throttle to splitter cable trimmed, shortened and soldered, i set fire to some rag on the bench, fuck, i blow on it to put it out, it set's fire to my roll of shop paper, i throw it out of the back-door, straight into the cardboard re-cycling bin, fucking fuck, the bin's on fire now, i'm trying to stamp it out wearing a pair of flip-flop's, my feet are now on fire, bollock's, i eventually bring the fire carnage under control, damp everything down and my neighbour appear's, are you having a barbeque mate?' 'er, sort of', regain composure, right, breather on to the flapper valve, [still need some sort of catch bottle but good enough for a trackday shakedown run], run breather to back of seat, i need a glass of wine and some new flip-flop's............

boxer racer project

right, need to get some spark's sorted for the racer, 'wiring man' hasn't trapped for the third week running, no answer to my phone calls, no reply to e-mither's , nothing, just more broken fucking promises, time to move on then, goodbye 'wiring man' hello paul, got a recommendation off-a-mate-of-dangerous's-mate-mick-who-had-a-classic-bike-wired-by-paul, most of the time these rec's are the best, paul turned up on time, took loads of time measuring, metering and making notes, i couldn't pin him down for a price, when the job would be done and we deffo won't be at rockingham on the jubilee bank holiday tuesday for the shake-down run, but, one thing's for sure is that the job will get done, [eventually].........and he reminded me of doc brown from 'back to the future' so you know everything is going to be good.....

tt races

john mcguinness, throwing down the gauntlet with a 129.411 mph lap, cameron donald just 0.388mph slower and guy martin knocking on the door with a 127.542mph lap, is this going to be guy's year? always the bridesmaid, it's just so tight at the top, there's ten riders who can win, who's going to do it? i reckon the record book might just have to be re-written again.......
