gallows

gallows, after a legendary gig at the now de-funct bell hotel, sadlergate, derby, [support act one of the most dangerous bands in punk history, trash talk] the mighty gallows bit a chunk off and spat it out, following the departure of the lead singer frank carter in 2011 the band released another album last year, my mate, the shovelmeister barse, saw franks new band at the deaf institute in manchester and reported good things, meanwhile, here's the original line-up, sans frank, but with alexison fire vocalist wade macneil, heres a tune  about the g20 summit, the riots and civil unrest, punks not dead.....

  2. been to a lot of gig's in my time, my first was hawkwind back in 1973, the winter tour, had a little button badge, yellow, with the hawkwind emblem and 'winter tour, have a nice time' on it, seen all the biggy's inbetween, roxy music, eno, eagles, elton john, beach boys, gentle giant, thin lizzy, punk happened, the clash, stiff little fingers, cramps, damned, stranglers, the jam, sham 69, two tone, madness, selecter, the specials, the beat, post punk, wire, suicide, magazine, rave, primal scream, the prodigy, underworld, little gig's in intimate surroundings, paul weller, julian cope, stadium rock with simple minds and a host of others, i can't even remember all the gig's, a combination of too many drugs and too much alcohol, don't judge me, i'm a working class man and fucking proud of it, work hard, play hard, no excuses, no agenda, but, one of the stand out gig's i've been to was the gallows at the old bell hotel in derby, the bell has a brilliant history, the mod's used it as a base back in the early sixties along with the garrick on ashbourne road, [now re-named as the thirsty scholar, excuse me?] mid-seventies and saddlergate was the place to be, a host of boutique's selling fashion merchandise, r.e.cord's punting out the latest reggae pre-releases and punk tunes and northern soul releases from it's dingy basement setting] i turned up one early saturday early evening, fresh from watching the mighty ram's, met up with the lad's, i'm slightly wobbly, been on the piss from mid afternoon, rubber stamped on the back of the hand, trash talk as support, barson, jake and chris statham windmilling around in the mosh pit, getting kicked to fuck, intense, beautiful...
