i was aware of gil scott-heron from my northern soul days, 'the bottle' a classic 'nighter record, for me it always had something different going on than the classic detroit four- to- the- floor upbeat classic stomper rare soul groove, here was political rebel music, stripped back to basic's, but with musical brilliance, incorporating african music, jazz, poetry and funk,  music with a message rather than just music to dance to, when gil passed on earlier this year i made a concious effort to seek out more of his legacy, i feel guilty that i didn't dip into his recordings any earlier, 'the bottle' only just scratched the surface of this man's legacy.....
