it's that time of year, i watch last year's highlight's over and over again, as soon as the races finish, through the autumn, even boxing day, after everyone else has gone to bed, at least once a week, i watch the footage, i know every corner, every bump, every braking point and jump and yet, i know nothing, i've ridden the tt course many times on a road bike, but nothing, not anything else in the world is like the isle of man tt races, these photo's are for real, that really is a stone wall that bill swallow is ducking out of the way of on a 350, john mcguiness is really out there between the stone wall's, telegraph poles and kerb's of the mountain course, god-speed ladies and gentlemen,the ones who are competing over the next fortnight, please, whatever faith you may be, spare a thought and as the late, great dave allen used to say, 'may your god go with you'........
Going to my first TT in a few days, the closest i've come to real road racin is at Oliver's Mount in Scarborough. I love it, your so close to the track/road you can feel the vibe, the heat, the smell awesome, my local track is Cadwell Park, its a great track but you seem to stand so far away from it as a spectator. I know the TT is gonna blow me away, the riders no matter if they win or finish last just praying even now they all make it home to the finish line. Catch up with you Loveless when i get back from the TT, keep at it !!!! Med
ReplyDeleteMed, i'm dead jealous mate, you really will not beieve what you are seeing, my tip is to get up early and get a spot at the bottom of bray hill, there used to be a bus shelter there, don't know if it's still there, get yourself parked on the roof, brandish is good, the highlander pub is great for the sidecars, get down low in the turn in to the pub, the passenger's are literally floating in mid air over the bumps, hillberry is a good spot too, doesn't look anything on a road bike but my god is it quick! but, my top tt tip is barregarow, i've watched from here many times, the bikes are bottoming out and scraping the road and they are so close to the wall on the left you can see the riders moving their heads out of the way so they don't scrape their helmet's on the wall, might be a restricted area now, check it out though if you can still spectate from there, fucking awesome, take care mate and if your'e going on your bike, forget 'mad sunday' and get a quick lap in really early in the morning, no traffic,[bar the day tripper's lap of the tt course coaches] everyone but the totally committed is still in bed, watch out for low sun, damp patches under the trees and bird's, they tend to get a bit startled early door's when you are on the pipe but not as startled as you will be if you cop one in the visor, [been there, done that]........
